A modular grid will be better when working on more complicated layouts. This provides more control over the elements used within the layout. It can be described as a column grid that consists of horizontal flow lines among columns, which are divided into rows and then produced into these cells, known as modules. As designers, we will place chunks of information into these spaces. As more elements are added, they will start to be grouped depending on the association. With it being grouped, the modules are defined by areas called spatial zones, where we define how much it can be controlled. Smaller modules allow more flexibility in placing elements, which means precise control over their placement. However, this can cause issues when being overused and can lead to confusion because of the multiple modules that are being used. These modules can be vertical or horizontal when speaking of proportions and can impact the decision when using images within the layout. Modular grids are commonly known to be used in publication systems and can be an economical choice when considering the format choice to be used.
